the village manifesto
We believe art belongs to the people who make it—not to algorithms, gatekeepers, or whoever can afford the loudest voice.
Our purpose is simple: to uplift the artists and creatives of West Michigan by becoming a place where their work can be discovered, appreciated, and remembered.
For years, the greatest obstacle many of us have faced has not been talent. It has been visibility.
In an era of social media, endless content, and constant oversaturation, creating has never been easier, yet being seen has never been harder.
Too many remarkable painters, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, writers, designers, and makers disappear beneath an endless stream of noise.
We’ve lived that reality ourselves.
When I started making music in Miami during the 2016–2017 SoundCloud era, I experienced both the excitement and the frustration of a creative explosion.
House shows introduced me to artists who would later become household names, proving that incredible talent can exist long before the world notices it.
But it also showed me how difficult it is to be heard when everyone is fighting for attention.
That experience planted a question: What if artists didn’t have to shout alone? This publication is our answer.
We exist to become a bridge between artists and the community around them.
Whether someone is looking for a painter, a filmmaker, a photographer, a designer, a fashion creator, or a musician of any genre, we want this publication to become the first place they look.
Not because we’re gatekeepers. Because we’re neighbors.
we are artist first
This publication is not built by career journalists looking for stories from the outside.
It is built by artists.
Every person behind these pages is creating something of their own while helping others share their work. We refuse to believe artists should choose between supporting their community and pursuing their own dreams.
The publication itself becomes another creative medium—a place where everyone’s work can breathe together.
When one artist succeeds, we all move forward.
it takes a village
There is a reason people say it takes a village.
Not just to raise a child.
To build a culture.
Modern life has pushed us further apart than ever before. Hyper-individualism tells us success belongs to the person who climbs the highest while pulling the ladder up behind them.
We reject that idea.
Decades of economic priorities have left us spending more time isolated—in cars, at work, and in spaces designed for productivity rather than connection. Third places have disappeared. Communities have become fragmented.
We believe art can rebuild what isolation has taken away.
A healthy creative community isn’t built through competition.
It’s built through collaboration, trust, and shared opportunity.
Our success means nothing if we arrive alone.
we lead from the front
We refuse to hide behind the publication.
We are part of it.
The people documenting this community are the same people creating within it.
Each issue becomes an opportunity not only to introduce new artists, but to show who we are, what we’re making, and what our city is capable of producing together.
We want readers to know the faces behind the pages.
We want them to feel like they know us.
Because this publication isn’t a company.
It’s a collective.
our promise
We will celebrate creativity regardless of medium.
We will tell stories before trends.
We will choose community over clout.
We will create opportunities where there were none.
We will build a platform that grows with the artists it serves.
And if we do this right, one day people won’t ask where to discover the next great artist in West Michigan.
They’ll already know.
They’ll come to the Village.
